FAT-CATTLE VALUES EASE
Drop of Up to 107- a Head at Stortford FEWER QUALITY: ENTRIES The fat cattle market dropped by up to 10/- a head at Stortford Lodge today. The yarding lacked the quality penned last week, with the result that competition was not so keen. Bidding was brisker for the few well-finished pens, which made well up to laSt week's values. The yarding eonsistod almost entirely of female entries, ia which cows predominated, A large percentage of the cows had been on the road for several days and in eonsequence were empty and did not look their best. The top price for cows was £9 32/fro a medium-weight .draft offered on 'account of Mr. H. M. Campbell, "Horonui. ' ' These horned Herefords were all solidly finished. Other entries of cows were offered on account of "Wai-' poapoa" Station and Marae Downs. Most of the heifera penned were. small grown and light, the best. line, in from "Horonui," making to £8 10/-. These were well bred and represented cfioice-quality young beef. Lighter and very small-framed heifers met with a quiet sale, making to £6 17/6. The only offering of ox beef waa one from "Raukawa" of medium-weight bullocks, prime finished, which 'sold to £12 10/- after keen bidding. . Towards the end of the selling the market showed an easing tendeney, chiefly owing to the demand falling off ! for lots below butchers' quality. Among the Jersey pens were some useful quality entries in which prime heifera made to £6 17/6, Realisations were as foUow:— .

RATES. > - On account of Marae Downs, three medium-framed young Aberdeen Angus cows, a little on the small side but well finished and ehowing prime quality, sold at £9. On account of the same vendors; an entry of Aberdeen Angus-Hereford-cross cows, slightly heavier than the previous pen and well finished, sold to £9 11/-. ' ' '' On behalf of "Waipoapoa" Station, an entry of clean-bred medium-framed Hereford cowst carrying a lot of condition but looking empty through being on the road for four days, realised to £8 11/-. ' On account of Mr H. M. Campbell, "Horonui," an. entry of well-bred horned Hereford cows, medium framed and solidly finished, a good quality pen, sold to £9 5/-. . - ♦ * On account of the same vendor, five similarly-bred cows, equally well finished, sold to £9 12/-. Tho final pen of "Horonui" cows, of medium weights and very solidly finished, making an attractive entry, sold to £9 10/-. An entry of medium-framed cleanbred Aberdeen Angus cows, solidly finished. sold to £9 11/-. An entry of smaller-framed similarlybred cows, empty after being on* ths road, sold to £7 11/-.
