Minister Reviews Tour of North Island

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Satisfaction at the response that has been made to his efforts to place rnarried men in useful work, was expressed by the aetingMinister of Labour, the Hom P. Q. Webb, who returned from a visit to Taranaki, where he conferred with the local bodies. "I have now praCtically completed my tour of the local bodies of the North Island, and the principal plaees in the South Island," he said. "'I set out about six weeks ago. to place 7000 married men in work for four • months. I am pleased to say that as a result of the co-operation of local bodies, a number have been placed. In some oi the smaller towns alinost every married man. available, for work .haa been given four months' full-time wiqrk to start with." Eeferring to single men, Mr Webb said there were certainly a considerable number of them fit' for any elasa of work, but a large number were too old to work. He was hoping to make suitable arrangements to alleviate the distress existing among single men.
