AFTER-HOURS DRINKING
Six Men Found in Darkened Hotel Bar Found after hours in the darkened bar of the Union Hotel, Port Ahuriri, six men were fined for the offence by Mr J. Miller, S.M., in the Napier Magistrate's Court this morning. The licensee and her son also were fined. Sergeanit G. F. Bonisch conducted the prosecution. Constable J. R. Williamson said that on July 23, at 9.30 p-m*. her an-d Sergeant Bonisch found six men in the bar of the Union Hotel. The place was in *darkness when the police entered. All the men admitted having had drink. The licensee 's son admitted having served the men. For being found on licensed premises after hours, Walter Johnson, of Napier, labourer, Ambrose Sayers, of Port Ahuriri, waterside worker, and Charles George Riddell, of Port Ahuriri, enginedriver, who all had previous convictions, wero each fmed £2f with 10/- costs. Albert - Heury Janc, of Port Ahuriri, labourer, Francis Eddy, of Port Ahuriri, labourer, and James Smith, of Port Ahuriri, lauuch driver, were fined £1 10/-, with 10/- costs cach. On a charge of selling liquor after hours, the licensee, Margaret Elizabeth Newman^ was fined £1, with 10/- costs, while the baxman, Roderick Keitb Newman, was fined £7, witli 10/- costs, for supplying liquor after hours. A'police visit to the Westshore Hotel on July 27 last resulted in the appearance of two other men on charges of being unlawfully on licensed premises. Fines of £1 10/-, with 10/- costs, were imposed upon both Thoraas Edward Martin, of Port Ahuriri, seamen, and Herbert James Hallam, of Port Ahuriri boijermaker.
