As the play settled down, Old Boys opened up the game, giving the backs pienty of the ball ; but they were harassed consistently by the Viliagers. Chasing a rolling ball give Willis the first try of the game, and then, after Havelock had made one promising but unsuccessful break, a similar try Was recorded ' by Amner, hjs effort being converted by Bradley, Old Boys continued to have the better of the game. Clothier broke away in a good blind-side run to pass infield for Marr to score. Bradley converted. For a time up and down play between the quarter-ways was the order, but just before the interval the Old Boys backs broke away in a good passing bout, and Marr again Bcored to mahe the tally 16— nil. The early part of the second spell saw the play travel up and down field at a fairly fast clip, with the Viliagers showing up better. Both sideB came close to scoring, aud there were several stern struggles among the forwards near both goal-lines. Occasionally the backs got moving in short-passing bouts, but good tackling was displayed by both sides. In one. of the Viliagers' exeursions Davis dropped a neat field goal to open his side's account. The ensuing play was not uninteresting, though neither side could increase its score. It was a case of the Villige forwards versus' the Old Boys backs, and the good spoiling tacties of the former prevailed. A series of shortpassing bouts led to Rangi Joll bredking away for a try that C. Joll converted to make the final count 16 — 9. The seorers were as follow: Napier O.B. : Marr (two tries), Bradley (two conversions), Willis and Amner (try each). Havelock North: Davis (field goal), Rangi Joll (try), C. Joll (conversion). Mr J.
