Pending a decision, probably on Wednesday night, by t he Hawke's Ray fitigby Union to declue the competitioii closed, Mariri are now virtuai champions. The game was a splendid oue from itarfc to finisfi. Both sides were in wonderful condition and revealed excellent lora, especially the two packs of forwards. The attendance -was roughly 1800, which, as far as can be ascertained, is a record' f or a- dub match ha Hastings. : • The remaining three senior games were all tall-scoring affairs. Technical Old BoyS defeated Hastings at Napier by 22 pointB to 11, Hastings Old Boys downed Pirktes 20-r-16, and Napier H.S.O.B. accounted for Havelock North 16—9.
