CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night/ The clerk of the course (Mr. R. A j Ferguson) was seriously injured' during the running of the last race at the New Zealand Metropolitan , Trotting Club h meeting at Addington yesterday. * . He was -taken to -hospital with serious head injuries. • Late this afternoon Mr. Ferguson had recovered conscioiisness but was still . on the seriously ill list. A f racture of the skull is suspected. When the field had travelled two and a-half furlongs in the -I^ternational Handicap Village Guy broke a hopple and in drifting back through /the field causod Grand Mogul to fall. Grand Mogul got up and- galloped through the" straight without his driver. As he was passing the showgrolinds fence Mr. Ferguson mounted on his gallopsr endeavoured to catch him, the horses collided and Mr. Ferguson was thrown, heavily Lto the ground. Willow Wave then became. involved in. the -mishap and the ; driver (S. ' A. Edwards) was thrown out. Edwards and Stewart (driver of Grand Mogul) escaped with a shaking and Grand Mogul w ls not injured.
