DISABLED SOLDIERS

LONDON, July 7. ■ Over 31,000 disabled ex-servicemen have ceased to register as unemployed —they have . given up hope _ of ever . getting a job, said a deputation from the ■ British Li-mbless Ex-Servicemen 's Association yesterday to a commit'tee of the. British Legion, which is studying the problem of disabled men. . • The Ministry of Labour's latest report stated that 30,000 disabled men were registered as unemployed. "Based on tlie evidence of our questionnaires, the true position is that 74,100 are unemployed,'. ' stated the deputation. The deputation also said that physical disablement was preventing many ex-servicemen from earning -augmentation to their pensions. This incapacity to earn, however, was not - officially admitted as being due to war service. A national fund was advocated for augmentation of pension, where necessary, to be paid direct with the pension : payment. It was stated that the Minister of Pensions wus seriouslv considering setting up an oificial inquiry, but he was powerless to aet in the matter of augmentation of pensions.
