HAWERA This Day. The death has occurred of Mr J. J. Patterson, of Manaia, reputed to be the largest dairy-farmer in th*> world. He was 79 years of age. He employed over 30 sharehilkers in Taranaki and the Waikato and was the owner of over 3000 cows. He was cattle-droving in Soutb Taranaki at 12 years of age, later becoming apprenticed to a" blacksmitli He carried on that trade at Manaia for many years with dairy farming as a side line. Then his dairying interesti grew to such proportions that he hac to devote his full time to supervision Ho took no part in public life but on aocount of his dairying activities he was well known throughout the Nortb Island.
