The Daily Telegraph 's Bordeaux correspondent says: "When Ereneh offlcials approached the Spanish Governinent, steamer Arnomendi to serve a writ of attachment issued at the instance of the Bank of Bilbao, the crew refused to allow them aboard and placed the Kepublican flag on the gangway. The flag was eventually removed in a theatrical manner, but in accordance with law, by a white-gloved Gendarmerie offlcer who saluted and presented the point of his sword to the offending flag. Meanwhile, the crew sang the "Iuternationale" and "The Eed Elag." These formalities completed, Erench artificers removed an essential pieee of machinery in order to prevent the ship from saiKng.
