Ten Additional Houses for Hastings RIVERSLEA ROAD AREA Another block of land to be ''subdivided into residential sites has been acquired in Hastings by the State" Sousing Department. It is proposed to erect 10 houses on this arefi, bringing the number of dwellihgs to be construcjted in Hastings under the liousing scheme to' over 60. Advice of the latest purchase was received this morning by Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P., from Mr J. A. Lee, UnderSecretary in Charge of Housing. The property comprises seven quarter-acre seetions belonging to Mrs M. Shaw, of Riverslea road, and is situated 111 the north-eastern ward of the borough. Mr Cullen said this morning that he auticipated that the department would be erecting 10 houses on the property, and he understood it was the intention of the Government that the buildings to be erected should be on a smaller scale than those contemplated for the Akina street block, tenders for the erection of which are now being called. It will be recalled that' some months ago it Was announced that the Government had purehased two blooks of land, oue in Akina street and the other in Willowpark road. Surveyors are at piesent working on this latter property, where it is proposed to erect 28 residences. Ab the result of the purchase of these three bloeks of land some 64 Louses will be erected under tlie Government jiousing scheme in Hastings.
