l Ii'rnrn

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Dislodged by a strong wiiid from its parking place near the Anglican Ohurcli, St. Mary's Lane, Waipukurau, yesterday afternoon, a driveriess car ran down the slope, crossed tlie roa/i and erashed through tlie stout rail and netting fence surrounding the primary school playgrouud. At this point the piayground is about ten feet below the level of the street, and the car plunged over the concrete embankment to come to rest on its spare tyre, with the radiator pointing skywards and the wheels against the bank. • Fortunateiy, the accident occurred just before classes were diamissed for the afternoon, so that there were tio children about at the time. Ten posts and about sixty feet of railing were aifected by the vehicle 's dive througli the feuce. A breakdown truck was promptly 3unmioned, but was unable to do the job alone, eo that another truck had to , oe brought, and the car moved from its awkward position with taekle fore and aft. When it was on its wheels again, the dainage was seen to be surprisingly hght in the circumstances. One rear spring and dumbiron were bent, while the back of the body and benzine tank were dented. The car, a tourer, belonging to Mr J. H. Walker, of Nelson street, had been parked in St. Mary's Lane by Mrs W alker.
