Bremen May Visit N.Z. Next Year

AUCKLAND, Last Night. The N'orddeutseher Lloyd turbine steamer Bremen, one. of the largest vessels afloat, and holder of the blue riband of the Atlantic until it was wrested from her by the French liner Normandie, may visi t New Zealand next year. This news was brought by the German steamer Anhalt, which arrived in Auckland from Galveston, Texas, this morning. The Bremen ia leaving New York on a 90 days' world cruise next JanuaTy and will enter the Pacific via the Panama Canal. She will be the largest vessel to pass through the waterway, and should she call at Auckland, as is anticipated, she will break all records. Of 51,665 tons gross burden, she will be by far the lafgest ship of any description to enter the Waitemata. In.length she outdistances the great 40,000-ton battleship Hood, which is 861 feet overall, against the 899 feet of the Bremen. Her beam is 102 feet and she registers 48 feet moulded depth. As far as merehant shipping is concerned she is about double the displacement of the largest. vessel yet to call at this port.
