DEMOCRACY
" The U'ouble about democracy," urges the Irieh Times, "is that, in the first place, it laoks colour; and, in the second place, it lacks that visible fount of authority which is so dear to the heart of youth. Democracy must fight for its existence agaiust the speoious allufements of 'authoritarianism' in the Fasoist and Gommunist States. It is a creed for maturity, inasmuch as it demands a sense of reSponsibility and of balanee which are not normal to youth. If it is to be preserved, it must be inoulc&tcd into the voung people of the still democratic States as part of their Vital hcritage 'as a tradition to be mainfcained with pride and joy, not as a matter for apologies."
