ST. AUGUSTINE'S CHURCH

Pariihioners' Annual Meeting The annual meeting of St. Augustine's Parisli was held on Wednesday evening in the Churchi Hall, Edwardes street, Napier, Avhcn the vicar (the Rev. S. 1\. Gardiner) presided over a large attendanee of parishioners. The vicar' s report sliowed a very healthy state of affairs within the parish, which was fully borne out by statistics submitted for comparjson with the previous year. The majority of the churck organisations were rapidly gaining ground, he said, and thanks were due to the various leaders who had been tireless in their efforts. - Sunday school work was making strides as regards numbers, but the work had been hampered to some extent by last Summer's epidemic. While increased collections and the provision of extra salaries and the heating of the church and schoolroom could be said to some extent to balance one another, the vestry was of the opinion that rigid economy would be necessary within the coming year to reduce the liabilities. The election of offcers for the ensuing year results as follows Vicar's warden, Mr G. H. Cooke; people's warden, Mr J. D. Hyde; vestry, Messrs J. Cowky, H. D. Fgulknor, J, Garratt, L. ,

R. Green, G. Rouse, C. P. Laing, P. P. Mayo, H. E. Shaw, J. Thorp and Louis Wood; synodmen, Messrs J. P. Yi'liamson and B. Thorp, re-elected O- l' Vyilliamson has been a member of synod since 1894) ; auditor, Mr H. Bull, reelected. A general discussion took place on fche financial situation and after arrangements had heexx made for a hazaar and also a garden i'ete (in grounda kiudlv offered by Miss W. Sheax*er), a soeial committee of ladies was set up to co-operate with the social committee of the vestry. After votes of thaxiks had been passed to various church organisations a similar compliment was extended to Mr Hector McGregor, for kindnesses during the year. Supper provided by the ladies brought the function to a close.
