MARKETING OF HONEY
May Be Placed Under State Control A general meeting of the^ Hawke's Baybrauch of the National Beekeepers' Association was held in the Chamber of Commerce room, Hastings. The president, Mr. J. N. Walker, called upon. Miss D. M. Dalgleish to give her report of the annual conference, which was held in Wellington recently, The report disclosed that various matters of vital importance had been dealt with at the conference. The Minister of Agriculture had stated that he woul(] tecommend Cabinet to place the honey industry under the primary-products marketing sclieme, and at his request a marketing committee had been set up at the conference. Mr L. Reisterer, apiary instructor of Ihe Department of Agriculture, said tbat Miss Dalgleish was to be congratulated on her comprehensive report, and a hearty vote" of thanks was passed to the delfega'te". Mr Beisterer and Mr H. Shepherd then gave their' views on the conference and spoke of the ex- ■ perimental work which is being carried out by the honey-research officer at the Cawthron Institute and by "the officers of the Apiary Division of the Department of Agriculture. After discussion on business arising from the conference, Mr D. G. Begley, who had expressed his desire to address the beekeepers, spoke on the Hawke's Bay primary-produce marketing sclieme with which he is associated. He mentioned the advantages *tbat might be aiforded to the producers of honey if tLey were to join up with the eompany he represented. He oullined generally the methods on which the company would operate, and' said that the right to control the marketing .of butter had already been granted by the Primary Produce Marketing Department. During tlie discussion which followed it was pomted out by inembers that the sclieme would rcquire very caiefu) consideration before auy actiou was taken, especiaily as a marketing «'Oinmittee liad' already been set up'by the National Beekeepers' Association to go mto the marketing of houey with the Director of lnterual Marketing sliould Cabrnet approvo of the inclusion of the honey industry in the primary-pro-ducts marketing scheme. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Begley for his address. A nmnber of those present gave donations for the hoiiey-repearch work which is to be carried out at the Wyndham sugar oi" milk factory, tiouthland.
