NO WEDDING BELLS

Our Own Correspondent.)

Changing Ideas of Modern Brides

(From

LONDON, June 30. "No wedding bells for me," is fast becoming the plea of the modern bride. Orange blossom, the bridal veil and a ehurch are no longer her dream. The bride prefers an afternoon dress or a two-piece costume to thd bridal gown, a handbag to a bouquet. _An official at Caxton Hall, Westminster, where there was a 20 per cent. increase in weddings last quarter compared with the same period last year, said yesterday: — "I think the reason foi the increase, which is very rapid, is that the parties like to have the marriage celebrated quietly and withont fuss." Another rejgister office official suggested that more weddings were being held at offices because fewer people go to church these days. It was recently stated in the House of Commons that 16,615 more people were married in rcgister offices in this country in 1934 than in 1929.
