Alarm Among Passengers

CHRISTCHURCH, This. Day. The steamer Tees, now at Lyttelton, is reported to have struek an objeet while passing throngh the * straits between Owenga and Pitt Islands, in the Chathams, last week. The vessel was in the straits at midnight battling with hea y seas, when she ran into a wall of water, buroped, heavily, and was carried on by a big following sea, "When the vessel bumped she lurched heavily and shipped much water, causing a good deal of alann among the 21 passengers. The Tees is to be docked at Lyttelton for survey. It is understood a preliminary marino jnqniry has already been held at Wellington.
