CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The weather was fine but cold for training work at Riccarton this morning. The outside of the course proper was open for f ast work, but was' very heavy as the result of rain earlier in the week. The steeplechase fences on the course proper were also available, being used by several trainers, while a number of hurdlers schooled in the ! middle of the course. Sovereign Lady and Chidden covered a mile in 1.50, going at an even pace. Golden Lap and Corona did a mile and a quarter, the last half mile .taking 55 3-5sec. Emelita and Happy Night took 1.6 3-5 for five furlongs. " Tiger Gain and Journet did a mile in 1.54. Dictate and Palmyra went well over five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. Forucn beat Rose of Tralee over six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. Trench Fight had Lazybones for a mate, the last half* mile of seven furlongs taking 1.31 1-5 — a good gallop. Greek Gold and Waitaha went half a mile along the back in 53sec. Miraele, with Silver Sight as & mate over the last six furlongs, covered a mile at an even pace in 1.51, Concerti piteh did seven furlongs in 1.36 2-5, the last four in 55sec. a Rockingham and Liane took 56see for half a mile. Rousseau, picked up by Swordstick, did seven furlongs. in 1.33 2-5, the last four in 53see. Elegy and Kindly took 1.38 2-5 for seven furlongs. Ponty beat Wino over seven furlongs in 1.37 1-5. Pelmet and Screamer took 1.5 3-5 for five furlongs, Jed Foxest and Daydress , taking 1.9. Arctic King and Te Toquet went out to gollop five furlongs, but tha latter turned xound and bolted the wrohg way, laaving Arctic King to get through his task alone in 1.6 2-5. Gold , Boy and Metal Bird follow;ed ia. 1.9 2-5. , Cocksure and Irish Hddle sprinted , half a mile in 53 2-5sec, Cerne Abbas ^ and Eoyal Chief doing the samt'distance in 53sec. K Shillelagh Wood and Cock o» the North did a cnile in 1.56. Shy and ^ Top Rank took 1.21 for six furlongs, the last four in 54 3-5sec, while Solpit . led them home in 53 2-5sec. Clubman and Poi Koger took 54 2-5 ( sec. for half a mile, Bebel Chief did ( five furlongs in 1.6. Monipere and Sweet Agnes heating Potent ovOr four, furlongs in 53 3-5soe. ' Mord beat Solwit over seven fur- ; longs in 1.36 3-5. Willie Win took 55 ! sec. ^pr half .a mile, Rabble and Lisnaereei following in 54, 3-5ses> Bay Duke ; did five furlongs in 1.5 4-5^ the last | four in 53sec. Phalanx went half a mile in 54sec,. The soreness which made itself apparent earlier ia the week was caused by corns, and the trouble has been curea. Red Sun , was out, and appears slightly improved. The jumpers, Forest Glow and Tangled, went- onee xound the steeplechase fences on the course proper. They travelled at^a sound pace and gav® a first-class exhibition of jumping. Clarion Call gave a dashing display •in a (school over six hurdles. He looks in great order. Royal Limond, Nocturnus and Maealpein set ont for a school over a round of the fences. The first-named pair kept together all the way, and their exhibition was very attraetive, as they cleared eaeh fence ■t'ast and stradght, Maealpein following them and did well till he reached the brush at the top of the straight, where he blundered and lost his rider. Solwit jumped smartly over two liurdles. Blue Tiger and Primate went out to school over the hurdles, but the forraer came to grief at the first, Ma rider receiving a shaMng. Primate subsequently jumped four ffights alone in .good style, while Blue Tiger went over six, the only blot being that he dipped on landing over the second last. Giggleswick jumped four hurdles, not cleverly over the first, but giving a good showing over the other three. Eedolent followed over the same ground, giving a brilliant exhibition. Sunny Land wound up the jumping by going at a sound pace over four ^ hurdles. This morning 's arrivala from the north were John Charles, Sir Nigel, Royal Banquet, Bunfight and Settlement.
