STAR-BOWKETT

Annual Maeting oi Hastings Society. The thirty-fifth annual general meeting of shareholders of the Hastings Starr-Bowkett Building Society was held last evening, Mr E.= T. Gifford presiding. ' The annual report and balance-sheet (previously published) were adopted. Messrs Rainbow and Hobbs were appointed the society's auditors. An appropriation of £500 by ballot in No 5 issue went to group No 123, and a' sale of £500 in No 6 issue realised £50, which, according to an actuary, is equivalent to one and one-half per cent per annum. The. chairman announced that it had been decided to endeavour to float a new issue. . He felt sure tliat the present was an opportupe time for sueh an undertaking. Tbe member who had just purchased the £500 loan said tha't by borrowing through this society and paying-off a Government loan he would effect a saving of nearly £300. A number of shares were taken up by those present, and the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman.'
