Pirates Increase Lead in Competitions COMMENT ON PLAY

(By

Iiast Thursday savr the conelusion of the second round in the Hastings Suh-Association's nxidweek hoebey competition. By defeating Huia, Pirates are now six points abead of Waimarama, who are now second in the competition. Waimarama won from Karori who were short. United Gold won by default from United White, With a round yet to be played the result of the competition is yet in doubt. In the junior grade, only one matcli wns played, that being between Karori and United Blue. The game was won by Karori by two go.als to nil. The game between Pirates and Huia was also a Banner matcli, and this, eombined with the fact that the result had a decided bearing on th'e competition, created a lot of interest. , The game was played at a very fast pace. Pirates had a lead of two goals to nil at the interval, and increased this to three soon after the seeond spell started, Huia, however, continued to press and eventually opened their aecouut. However, they could not increase their seore, and the game ended in favour of Pirates by three goals to one. Pars Ahout Players, Eussell (Huia) has not played much fhjp season, but he turned out.last week and played a great game. He was here, there and everywhere, and gave his forwards a liberal supply of the ball. Henderson (Karori juniors) is a heady forward and his stick-work is very tricky. He would do well to remember, however, that body play is illegal. Cranston (United Blue) is improving with every game. He worked very hard last wee'k. Gosnell (Karori) is a goalie who is a decided asset to any team. He uses his feet to advantage aad his clearing last week was really brilliant. On one oeeasion he booted the ball almost to half-way. E. Walsh (Pirates), playing on the lef t wing last week, turned on a good game. His solo effort, which he finishod ofl; with a goal, was a good moyement.
