. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Not for many yeqrs has a decisipn ef tho Court of Appeal caused such intercst in t;\cles uuion circles as, - -at given yesterday declaring the. Ota^P Olerical Workers' award invalid. Intorest has been aroused not only because of tho Immediate effect of the decisipn, but also because of the far-reaching effect • the judgmeut is likely tp have on all vpcatipnal unions. It is agreed by proniinent trades uuion oificials thqt the effect of the judgmcnt would he to deelare invalid awards covering all vo.eational workers, ineluding general labourprs, drivers, stpremen, and shPP assistants, and, while it is npt anticipated thqt employcrs, will take immediate advantage of the decision, it is felt that no time shpuld be lost in securing au amendment pf t,he existing legislatipn tp hring all vocatienal unions within the interpretation of the word "industry," It is coufidently ahtieipated in trades union circles that thq Gpverumont will amead the Industrial OQnciliation" aud Arbitratiau Act at the begiuning of the next session of Parliament to bring all vocational unions within the provisions qf the Act. It is held that the Government would be justified in tqking this cqnrsp as the view is taken that the amendment would mahe clearer what was the intention of the Legisfature in the first xfiaee.
