Alberton Farmers Lose Benefits Many farmers in Alberta will be unablo to seeure hail insurance this ^ ear owing to the recent suspension of operations of the Hail Insurance Board of Alberta, which, because of failure to obtain credit from the bank on the promised guarantee of the provincial Government, have been brought to a halt. Alberta has the unenviable disfinction of leading every province oi state on the North Ameriean continent in having the lieaviest hail loss ratio. As quite a few hail insurance companies have withdrawn fruui the province in recent years because of exceptionally heavy losses from hail, the farmers are placed in a serious position. The Hail Insurance Board was organised in 1919 by the Alberta Legislature, and has earried on efficiently, having paid losses foi crops damagec by hail amounting to over 15,000,000 dollars since the inception of the act. It has covered over 20,000,000 acres, making a risk earriage of approximately 176,000,000 dollars in this insurance seheme whereby the municipalities colleet taxes for hail damage from the farmers.
