CENTRAL SCHOOL
Plans for New Building to be Discussed To-day MAYOR AND COMMITTEE An important decision affecting the future of the Hastings Central School will be arrived at late this afternoon, when members of the committee will eonfer with the Mayor, Mr. G. A. Maddison, in his capacity bs chairman o* the Hawke's Bay Education Board, regarding the erection of a new school building for Hastings Central. This matter has been prominent in educational discussions in Hastings for very many years, and more than one Minister of Education and more than oue Director of Education have expressed approval of the proposal that there should be a new school building ereeted to replaee the present building, which has been far from satisfactory for a big number of years. However, despite repeated representations and many official visits and ipspections, the proposal was shelved. From the information given recently by Mr. Maddison, however, it appears that the proposal is at last to be heeded, and all that remains is for the committee and the board to complete plans and general lay-out, together with the site, of the proposed new building and the work will be proceeded with at a very early date. . It is to complete details that the meeting to-day is being held, and though the members of the committee are not fully acquainted with what plans the board has in.view they are hopeful that finality will be reached and that within a year there will be a new, up-to-date and well-equipped school in the place of the present dilapidated building.
