A GREAT CIRCLE OF PEACE
" Under George "VT, our firsl King orowned under the new 00mmonwealth system, we maroh forward with confident step toward whatever fate may be in store for us. The greatest constitutional advance* in history has been accomplished without hitch. Let the voice of the croaker, of the prophet of evil and of disruption and ruin, not be heard again in our midst. There are people who a.sk what is the advantage of such5 a world-wide commonwealth and whether it- is not safe for them to stand alone, and so avoid getting mixed up with the troubles and diffiaulties of others, They fear being drawn into the peril of what they mistakenly oall Imperialism, and prefer a position of isoVation in the world. I would reply by pointing out that our Commonwealth of Nations is the largest peaceful unit which has ever existed in the world. Here we have one-fourth of the world, and probably one-fifth of mankind, living in relations of undisturbed peace with each other. What the larger League oi; Nations has been vainly trying to bring about among mankind is the settled and accepted order in this vast group. -Surely it is a matter of immense value to us that we are peaceful members of tkk great. cjrclei' '^.Qjfegral Smuts. \
