PARKVALE SCHOOL
Meeting of Committee The monthly meeting of the ParB* vale School Committee was Held lastj evening, when Mr J. Stipklana presided over Messrs H. Spence, J. H. Philpott, O. H. Bennett, T. Rapley, J. K. Davidson, C. Jenniugs and H, Cameron (hon secretary and treasurer)| and Mr W. B. Roe (headmaster). The appointment of Miss Githa A, Pickett as assistant-teacher was oonfirmed ; and advice was received from the Hawke's Bay Education Board that Miss L. Campbell had been appointed a relieving teacher. The headmaster reported that the attendance had been fairly good and that the average attendance was 408. Last week the niedical oflicer, Dr. Anderson, had visited the school and a number of parents had been present to Watch the children undergo examition, The headmasler mentioned that ha had accepled the olfer of a framed pieture, "Hastings Through ELve lleigns," together with a copy of the special Jubilee and Coronation supplement, l'rom the editor, Mr W. A. Whitlock, of the Herald-Tribune. A letter of thanks is to be s.ent to Mr Whitlock," - On behalf of the sub-committee appointed to arrange for additional cycle stands, Mr H. Spence reported that for the expenditure oi £15 it had been possible to provide accommoda* tion for an additional 80 bicycles. The work had been carried out and the stands had already been put to use aud Jound to be quite satisfactory. He said that there was now accommodaLion available for about 90 per cent. of the children's bicycles. Congr atul ations were extended by members to the cliairman, Mr Stickland, upon his appointment as a justice of the peaee.
