VALEDICTORY
Mr. R. J. Surgenor Mr E. J. Surgenor, who has taken a very keen interest in hockey affairs during the seven years he has been statiohed. in Napier^ and who has been transferred to Gisborne, was accorded a most enthusiastic send-off at the residence of Mr and Mrs B. J. McCutcheon, George's Drive, Napier. Hockey players and supporters assembled in large numbers, and spent a very pleasaut evening. Mr Surgenor has been one of the most faithful as well as most popular of hockey referees, having given a great deal of time to the encouragement of the game, and he has been the sole hockey selector for Hawke's Bay for some time. Many of those present were members of the Hawke's Bay Umpires' Assoc'iation, on whose behalf Mr E. Mardon asked Mr Survenor to accept a hanging mirror as a mark of esteem and appreciation, and aocompanying tho presentation went regret at Mr Surgenor 's departure, and the best wish of all hockfey supporters for Mr Surgenor 's success in the future.
