Mrs H, Conuopj of Hastings, left this morning on a short visit to Wellington; Mr W. Oakes, of Auckland, who has been visiting Hastings and Napier,, returned home this morning. -Ir F. C. Wilkinson J.P., who has been visiting Helensville on a holiday, returned to Hastings during the weekend. Mr H. J- Angus, organiser of the coinpensating price campaign, is staying at- the Hastings Hotel. He will be in this district for Some time and will address branches of the Farmers' Union. The Eev. Alan C. Whitelaw, of St. A ndr ew 's Church, Te Awamutu, has' received a call to St. Andrew's Church, Blenheim. He will take the place of the Eev. J. D. C. Madill, who is now at St. George 's Church, Linwood. Mr. A. E. Pyatt, Gisborne manager for Messrs. Safgood, Son and Ewen, Ltd., has recedved notice of his promo* .tion to the position of assistant manager at Auckland. Mr. E. A. Biirge has been promoted to branch manager iu succession. to Mr. Pyatto The Rev. A. T. Bristed Page, vicar of Miramar and Seatoun, is to retire shortly because of ill-heaith and advancing years. Mr' Page, who was ordained deacon in 1892, has a very long record of service hs a priest in the Wellington diocese. He is to be succeeded by the Rev. C. E. Willis, who is coming from England. The Rev. W. J, Durrad, vicar of Featherstone for the past 12 years, is to succeed the Rev. E. M. Cowie when he retires from his eharge of Khandallah. Khandallah was the home of Mrs Durrad' s father, the late Mr G. G. Bridges, who was a loyal churchman and synodsmah. in the Wellington diocese. Mr Sydney L. . Thompson, Christchurch, well-known painter, left Auckland on Friday by the Port Fremantle for London. It is his intention to paint for a year in Brittany, Frarice, before returning to New Zealand. For a considerable period of his career as an artist, Mr Thompson lived in Coo carnau, Brittany, Mr A. E. Flower, who has completed 50 years' association with Christ's College, including 40 years as a teaeker, will retire from his position as assis-tant-master at the end of the year. Mr Flowof joined tho teaching st&ff in 1S97. Ho has also had a long association with the Canterbury University College Council and the University • Senate, as well as being a member of various sports organieations.
