MR RICHARD LEE RYAN
The death occu^red at an early hour this morning in Hastings of Mr. Bichard Lee Eyan, well-known music teacher, and with his passing Hastings loses a citizen who, in his own particular sphere, was an outstanding personality. The late Mr. Byan was born at Kumara, in the South Island. He waa about 70 years of age at the time of his death.' He came to Hastings approximately 30 years ago and within a very short time he had established liiinself as an outstanding and most successful teacher of music. Ho was for very many years choirmaster of the Sacred Heart Chureh, and devoted a good deal of energy and time to arranging concerts and functions on behalf of the Makogai Leper Institution. He was also a very strong and staunch supporter of the Hastings Orchestral Society, being secretary i'or very many years. In all matters concernlng cnusic and art in Hastings Mr. Byan was liot only a keen supporter but au untiriug aud energetie worker, and many of the festival concerts which he arranged on various occasions attracted widespread attention and interest. Never a seeker of the limelight, the late Mr. Byan was content to give his servicely freely and williugly in an unobtrusive mauner, and he was privileged to enjoy a very wide circle of friendships, while in addition he endeared himself to his pupils, who may be found scaltered over all parts of the Dominion. The late Mr. Byan was a bacheloi and leaves only oue sister, Mrs. T. E. Lindsay, of Hastings. The funeral will leave the Catholic Chureh at 10.30 o'clock on Monday . mm £05 .thfi Hsstings .
