Dredging to be Discontinued

WANGANUI, This Day. After being in commission sinee April 15 last, the Wanganui Harbour Board's suction hopper dredge Kaione is to cease operations to-day. In accordance with a harbour improvement scheme adopted by the board over three months ago, the Kaione has earried out extensive dredging , at the river entrance, in the channel leading to the bar aua also in the vicinitv of the south spit. A steady improvement in the depth of Water available was noticed soon after the vessel was recommissioned. It was pointed -out at the last monthly meeting of the board, howcver, that so far thc vessel had cost £6,700, £4,200 of which vvas the i'csult of an Cxtensive ovei'liaul lftst April. The board decided to suspend i operations indefinitely.
