The Hon. P. C. Wehb, Acting-Minis-ter of Labour, left Wellington for Lyttelton by the inter-island express steamer last night. The Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries amd Commerce, left Wellington for the south by the inter-island express steamer* Jast night, Mrs Gerald Wilson, of Ongaonga, has retmrned from a holiday spent in Java and Singapore. The Hon. F, Jones, PostmasterGeneral, will leave Wellington for the South Island by the inter-island express steamer to-night. He expects to be absent from Wellington for a week. Mr Alexander Macintosh, who has been a director for the last 20 years, has been elected chairman of the New Zealand board of the Colonial Mutual Lifo Assurance Society Ltd., in succession to the late Mr Gerald FitzGerald. Flight-Lieutenants L. Crocker and L. M. Grundy, of the Royal Air Force, who recently arrived from England 011 exchange to the Royal New Zealand Air Force, landed at Wellington yesterday. Mr W. N. Norwood, general manager of Dominion Motors, Ltd., with Mrs Norwood, is leaving shortly for England and Ameriea to visit the English and American factories with whioh his company is associated. On Tuesday he was tendered a dinner at Wellington by his branoh managers, who presented him with a gold dress watoh. Mr T. A. Moodie, of Napier, has been appointed superintendent for New Zealand of Dalgety and Co., Ltd. Mr Moodie has been manager of the Napier office of the firm for a number of years and is well known throughout Hawke's Bay, He joined the Dunedin office of the firm cn 1897 and subsequently was for several years manager of the Palmerston North branch. He has been on a visit to Australia and is expected to arrive back in New Zealand by the Wanganella next week* Mr, and Mrs. A, G, Nicholson, of Kmght street, Hastings, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary tomororw. Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson were married on August 1, 1887, at Kingston Church, Portsmouth, England. Mrs, Nicholson was formerly Miss Emily Pascoe. Mrs, Nicholson some time ago fell and broke a tbigh and is still an inmate of the Hastings Soldiers % Memorial Hospital. A quiet celebration of thg occasion which friends of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson have been invited will be held to-morrow afternoon at the hospital. 5* ■ Mr, T. E. Easterfield, son of Profes* sor Easterfield, Wellington, and Mr. R. A. Rankin divided the Owst Prize as a result of awards announeed recently at the University of Cambridge. Mr. Easterfield also ■ was among the recipients of book prizes. He is a student at Clare College and his name appears among those who received the B.A. degree by proxy. Mr. R. D. Sweet, who is taking medicine at Gonville and Caius, iU among sekolarship holders and has been awarded a First- Year Exhibition, The degreo of B.A. by proxy was awardod to Mr, J, 0, Dear"!
