PORT AHURIRI SCHOOL BALL

Eagerly awaited each year by residents oi Port Ahuriri and surrounding distriets, the annual ball of the Port Ahuriri School, which took place last eveuiug. This year the splehdid arrangjements and exeellent .floor left nothing to be desired. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co's wool store, being loaned for the occation, was gaily bedecked with flags of every description, which were suspended from the roof and displayed along the walls. Here and there large palm i'ronds were to be seen tied with largie bows of red, white and blue. The orchestral dais, from which Redward'e orehestra of eigbt instruments played popular dance music, was bordered with bands of red, white and blue, which •wero topped with rosettes of red and blue arrauged on a background of white. Over the orehestra was a very offective cai^tpy of red, white and blue streamers. Misses G. Howe and N. Stanford were responsible for the dais decorations and Messrs G. Stanford aud many willing helpers decorated the hall. The lightin'g eftects were in the capable hands of Mr J. Boyd. The long supper tables were decorated with red ahd blue bands runriingj along the centre of the white cloths, thits completing the Cororiation colour scheme of the entire decorations. The following ladies were in charge of the splendid supper arrangements : Mesdames G. Riddell, R. McCarthy, G. Liddell, F. Smith, J. Boyd, G. Iieath, G. Tait, R. Gallagher, G. Cameron, G. Grant, G. Stanford, A. Riddell. To ensuro the success of the ball, "the follcrwing men's committee left no stone untumed: — Messrs G. Stanford (chairman), McCarthy and Feildhouse (joint secrotaries) , W. G. Ball (treastirei'), Pearce, Sbaw, Tait snr., Ohubin, Chittendcn, F. Sniith, Lawrence, L. Sellar, Tait jun. (2), Stanford j p . , A. Neill, C. Riddell, G„ Itiddeli, JL Black, Augove, Grant, SihlinS, J. Munroo, Iieath and Poole.
