MR CHARLES E. TWIST

This morning there passed away rather suddenly at his residence, Maiu road, Taradale, one of Hawke 's Bay 's best known and most highly esteemed settlers and one of its finest sportsmen in the person of Mr. Charles E. Twist. The late Mr. Twist came to Hawke 's Bay about 35 years ago, and had been for a great many years stock buyer for the North British and Hawke's Bay Freezing Co., Ltd. Moving about as he did frocn one end of Hawke's Bay to the other and to other parts of the Dominion as well, the late Mr. Twist came in contact with many people, to whom his striet integrity, his great kindliness, and his sound judgment secured for him an enduring friendship and regard, and few who knew the fine character who has passed away will not feel a deep sorrow at his going. He was a sheep farmer whose knowledge of stock enabled him to pilot his way safely through the depression through which all t'armers passed. As a sportsman no man has held a higher place as a straight-running owner who liked to breed his own stoek and who raced purely for the love of tlxe sport. He was a member of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club, Hawke's Bay Hunt Club (of which he, his wife and daughter were strong supporters and followers), the Waipukurau Jockey Club and Napier Park Racing Club. To both the Waipukurau and Napier clubs he had rendered valuable help as adviser and superintendent of their farming aetivities, while he had also been president of tlie Napier Park Racing Club for some time. Mr. Twist had for many years been an active member of the executive committee of the Hawke's Bay A. and P. Society, and took a promineht part in thc farming of Ihe showgrouiids. He leaves a widow and one daughter, Aliss lirace Tvvisl, to Liolh ot whom in their great sorrow the deep sympathy of a host of friends 'will oe extepded.
