BRISK SALE FOR EWE HOGGETS
Advance of 2/6 for Well Grown Lines RECORD WETHER PRICE Ewe hogget? provided particularly good selling at Stortford' Lodge to-day, when well-grown entries showed a rise of fully 2/6 a head. A feature of the yarding was the entries of extra-well grown ewe hoggets, which were of better quality than most of those yarded for some time. Shorn as lambs, one line on account of Mr J. Lyons topped the market at 30/-. The top line unshorn, offered on account of Mr J. C. Bell, "Whakapiro", sold at 34/-. Another line in from Longlands brought 32/-. Most of the ewe hoggets were in very good condition and should develop into good breeding two-tooths. There was only a small offering Qf wether hoggets, which wero not up to the standard of late saies. => s Competition remained keen throughout the sale, with poorly-grown lines showing a good jmprovement • on last week's values. A new high price level was eBtablished for fat and forward wethers, when the record price of 28/11 was made. The breeding ewes offered were chiefly of medium quality only, and sold at satisfactory rates. Realisations were as follow : — • . On account of the Jowsey Estate, "Te Whana," a line' of mixed-aged y oung ewes depastured with Southdown rams, in good condition and .carrying a good slipe, brought 31/-. On account of Mr H. R. Camphell, Poukawa, 203 .medium to w_ell-gro>vn ewe hoggets shorn , as lambs and in good order sold at 28/3. An entry of 102 medium-framed wethers, in forward order and mixed in the wool, sold at 25/4. A line of 107 medium-framed woolly Romney wether hoggets, in fair order, made a good sale at 19/6. An entry of 102 sound-mouthed roomy ewes, depastured with. Southdown »rams since March 1, dn good order and well woolled, sold at 23/9. On account of Mr D. "Wilson, Waimarama, an entry of medium-grown ewe hoggets, shorn as lambs and "in good sound healthy condition, met the market at 26/6. An entry of aged empty "ewes, in from Sherenden and in low condition, sold at 1*2/4. •^r On acconfit of Mr L. McLean, ' ' Glencoe," a line of two, four, six and eight-tooth ewes, depastured with Southdown, rams since March 2, mdxed in tho wool but good-doing, sound young sheep, made good buying at 24/8. On account of the same vendor an entry of flve-year ewes, depastured with Southdown rams since March and well woolled, sold at 24/5. On account of Mr 3. O. Bell, Whakapiro, 61 extra-well grown Romney ewe hoggets, including a number shorn as lambs, topped the market at 34/1. 'These hoggets, which were in exceptionally forward order, sound and healthy, made a most attractive entry. Down from Rukumoana, a line of emall-grown woolly ewe hoggets, in hardy order, sold at 22/3. On account of Mr W. Sissons, Longlands, 70 well-framed earlyshorn fat and forward wethers, in splendid condition, attfacted the competition of hutchers to top the market for the season. They sold at a record price for several years —28/11. On account of Mr J. Lyons, "Greenhill," an entry of extra-well grown Romney ewe hoggets, shorn as lambs, in very forward order and thoroughly sound and healthy. mado the splendid price of 30/-.
