Theft from Hospital lnmate MAN ADMITTED TO PHOBATION Charged with the theft of & cheque for £8 4/8 from a fellow hospital inmate, William Kirkpatrick, farm labourer, single, aged 25, appeared before Mr J. MiRer, S.M., in the Hastings .Magistrate 's Court this morning. A plea of guilty was entered. ■ The offenee was committed at Waipukurau on July 14, the cheque being the property of Nicholas Perry Wilder. The Magistrate pointed out that the theft was a very mean one but, as the defendant was a first olfeilder, I10 would give him a chanee. Defendant was released on probation for one year, restitution of the money to he made as quickly aa1 possible. Detective-Sergeant L. Revell said that defendant had been in the Waipukurau hospital. When he Was diScharged a fellow-inmate had asked him to get him his coat from the loekerroom. Defendant got jthe opaitr" #vndj took a cheque for £8 4/8 from the poc'ket. This he cashed, and he appropriated the money to his use. He came to Hastings and, when arrested here, he had only 14/5 in his posse*sion. '
