SINCLATIk
Sir,-— As one - of tho very many returned soldiexs assisted by- tho Hawke's Bay War Relief Association, ~I would like to ' offer 'my measuro of apprecfa-' tion for the- gonerous assistance they accorded to ,mo and for the very. human interest the gentleraen on the War Relief. Association took in me. . I do not belleve Mr G. B. Menzies's rema'rks represent the feelings of tho Returned Soldiers' Association, and they certainly are no.t the feelings of returned men themselves, who remembcr liow the R.S.A. mauaged the beautiful club built by the people of Napier for tho returned men. ■With regard to any overlapping, liow can thia be, since Ihe War Relief has been funetioning since 3914? If any overlapping- has occurred between th'e R.S.A. and War Relief, this has only been brought about at Napier by Mr Mcnzies himself. If after getting no satisfaction from him men have gone to the War Relief, that is not ovorlapping. Whai -x Iga* to returned soldiers it
would be if these. honourable men on Ihe Hawke)s.H!xy..War Rdlief r.Association, who have given so muph of their valuable time and experience so-freely and gratuitously since the beginning of the war. and are; now so" well versed with our 'diMculties should turn'-thb War Relief . work' in because of this jsort of agitation. . Fortunately. for ua they ar0 too. big-minded and. have .done their wprk too, honestly-to be. dist.urb-. ed by one ,dis(jordant note, . . . My connectiOn with -the War Relief has . been - throug'h the- -late president, Mr . John Harding, and * .the . Hastings committee^ ..Messrs . W. ,Hart," George Eboett. H. Holdernoss, F, HulJ, L. J. Mackersey and others ; , apd. wh.en = we "consider .men such . inte^rity > and - abllity we rest assured that ■ the, ques/ tion of costs of administration. has been well studied. ' •' * * " ' I would. like to state; that ;I .-would not, to-day. be in the. pqgition I am in ivithput. the .phst, help\ of the. Hawke's Bay- War- Relief Associatipn, and . regarding my health I certainly am for ever in' their debt. it. wa's" "oflly" their wonderful, ' * human help- ..and* persoba) atteh|;ioh. and!. that- of "their wo'rthv secretary, Mr 'Gqldfinch, at a vefy 'uritica'l time" that puiled mo thrOugh. ' ' " Gonstructive qriticism is always wel- • come; ' the". R.SnA. in latter ye'ars has done miich good,' . and, I' trust, Will cohtinue* to do - so. , This association, ; however,: should never allow any discrbdit" to" b'e "thro'wn 'at the administrators , ' and administration of tho Haivke 's Bay Wa'r Relief Association until tliey • are shown to have' failed ms. — Yours, ctc. *-r -- - 'i-'i '
