N.Z. PIG EXPORT
Highly Favoured at Smithfield grading of baconers "New Zealand porker pigs are particularly well thought of on Smithfield market; in fact, in the- opinion of the trade, there is no better quality coming to that market," states the New Zealand Meat Board in its annual report. "It is pleasing to note the steady increase in our shipments of baconers," the report coutinues, "but there is stoill room for improvement in the quality, and the board is of the opinion that the' time is now opportune for the standard of the grading of baconers to be revised. The development in the export of pork which has taken place has undoubtedly been aided by this special rediiction in shipping freight rates and by the assistance given to the industry by the board in a uumber of other directions. For many years the board has recognised the necessity for educating farmers as to corroct methods of farming pigs, as is shown by its practieal support in donating substantial grants to the pig recording and - research clubs. Tliie financial assistance has enabled these clubs to carry out educational work regarding j pig management and research work. "It is pleasing to note that the Department of Agriculture has now introduced a national seheme for the development of the pig industry, which will be available to all farmers in the Dominion. A practieal and qualiiied iTistructional servicc sliould do mueh to improve the general rype and qualitv of our pig*,"
