SEASON'S TOP PRICES FOR HOGGETS
Keen Competition To-day at Waipukurau SMALL CATTLE ENTRY A sharp rise of fully 1/2 a head for hoggets wae the feature at to-day'® stock eale at Waipukurau. WooUy ' sorts brought 24/10 and shorn entries 23/8, topping the market in both cases for the season. Offered by the Hawke's Bay FaTmers Co-operative Association, Ltd., a line of well-grown shorn. Romney wether hoggets on account of Mr J. Grant, Hatuma, brought 23/8. Offered by the same firm, and on. account of Mr J. L. Blundell, a line of woolly wether hoggets realised the eplendid " figure of 24/10. Competition for all entries of hoggets, which predominated the yarding,' was particularly keen, all entries, including small-grown lines, being readily sought after. Mixed-age breeding ewes showing well up in lamb brought 30/-. Fat sheep were in very short supply, medium-framed prime wethers making 35/8. ' Cattle again formed a very small yarding. In the fat pens the principal entry was that offered on account of Morrison Bros., and consisting of fat sows, which made to £10 12/% Eealisations were as follow:— ' , CATTLE, On account of Morrison Bros., Fairfield, Waipukurau, a medium to heavy extra-prime eolidly-finished, lightlygrown Aberdeen Angus heifers, a finequality. young beef entry, brought £10 5/% On account of the same vendors, a pen of clean-bred solidly-finished prime cows in excellent order, a good medium to heavy entry, commanded keen competition to make £10 12/- for the heaviest and £9 15/- for the remainder. An entry of smali-framed light and horned Hereford cows in prime order, a useful cutting-out pen, eold at £6 15/-. An entry of aged Jersey and crossbred cows in very light condition, • an inferior-quality line, were slow to trade to £2 15/-. The only entry of store cattle, a lino of 20-months-old Aberdeen Angus steers in poor condition, having been hard done through the winter, brought £6. " FAT SHEEP. A small pen of prime-quality wethers, medium framed and in splendid order, sold at 35/8. A line of 120 small-grown Romney wether hoggets in fair order brought 20/9. An entry of aged ewes, light in condition but carrying a good slipe, sold at 18/7. Another pen of better-quality medium framed well-woolled ewes brought 23/6. A small eptry of 2-th. ewes, prime finished, sold* at 23/% " STORE SHEEP. A lino of very small-grown, woolly Romney trether hoggets, in light order, made 14/6. In from Porangahau, 83 small-growri woolly Romney ewe hoggets, in light order and backward, made 20/2. A line of 59 small-grown, Shorn Romney wether hoggets, in poor order, made a good sale at 14/-. * In from Porangahau, 110 mediumgrown, woolly Romney wether hoggets, in good carry-over order, sold at 19/3. On account of Mr. J. Grant," Hatuma, 383 well-grown, shorn Romney wether hoggets, well bred and in very forward condition, having been well done, an unusually good entry, topped the market at 23/8. On account of Mr. Norman Waldin, Takapau, 126 well-grown woolly, wellbred Romney wether hoggets, off high country, in very healthy order and thoroughly sound, were eagerly sought after. to sell at the splendid figure ot * 24/7. On account of Mr. D. Ritchie, Long Range, 127 4, 6 and' 8-th. ewes, depastured with, Romney rams since March 15, medium framed and in quite • gcod order, sold at 30/-. A small entry of medium to wellgrown and well-#ooled Romney wether hoggets, in very forward order, brought 23/-. On account of Mr. J. G. Wilson, Hatuma, 134 well-bred, shorn Romney wether hoggets, medium grown and in good healthy condition, being thoroughly sound, brought 20/% A line to 50 shorn Romney ewe hoggets, medium grown and iu light condition, sold at 20/1. On. account of Mr. A. D. Wallace, •ia entry of mixed-age ewes, chiefly 2 and 4-th ewes, none being over 4-yr.-old, depastured with Itomney ram siuc® March 1 and showing well up in lainb, icalised 26/3. On account of Mr. J. L. Blundell, Argyll, an entry® of well-grown and well-woolled llomney wether hoggets, m very forward order, thoroughly *ound and healthy, sold after keen bi«IJiug at 24/-.
