r HAMILTON, L^t Night. ; A fihe of £30 was imposed on William Barnes ^earon, an auctipncer, at the Police Court, Hamilton, to-day by Mr. S. L. Paterson, Magistrate, on a charge of intoxication in charge of a ear. Defendant's license was endorsed to March 31, 1938. The case was a sequel to an accident in which a girl was knocked down by a car in Hamilton East on June 14. The Magistrate commented:-— "No details of the accident have been given me and it might appear that the intoxication had nothing to do with the accident. However, I ain satisfied that the evidenee proVes that accused was intoxicated for a doctor had carried out careful tests. It is dosirable that in cases of this nature medical men should carry out the full'series oi: tests as laid down by the British Medical Assoiiation. From the point of view of the Bench and public it is much bettOr Ihat these cases should be decidod upon an authority. "It is possible for a man to.be in such a state of intoxication that his motoricg skill is not affectcd. 'V7hcn a man is slightly intoxicated there is a dAnge'r that his judgment will bocome affected," added Mr. PaterBOn.
