Auckland to 'Wellington in 2hrs. 9min.

WELLINGTON, Last Night. What is ciaimed to be a record flight between Auckland and Wellington for a light aeroplane was made on Saturday by Wing-Commander Hon. B. A. Cochrane, Chief of the New Zealander Air Stnff, in the Public Works Department's Whitney Straight. Accompanied by Flight-Lieutenant E. A. Gibson, chief engineer of the Public Works aerodrome department, WingCommander Cochrane completed the journey of approximately 2S0 iniles in tw j hours nine minutes. The course taken was via Stratford. Thougk tho aeroplane's cruising apeed was only about 120 miles an hour, a strong northerly made all the difference. Wing-Commander Cochrane and Flight- I Lioutenaut Gibson returned after an extensive tour of North Island aerodromes. The Public Works Department's Moth, with Mr. A. Pritchard at the controls and Mr. Hastall as a passenger, returned to Rongotai aerodrome yesterday after a tour of the South Island.
