f WESTPORT, July 24. Under the Worst possible conditioiis, in driving rain and on a sodden field, the Bpller Rugby representatives defeated Nelson to-day. The Buller .forwards adapted themselves to the conditions better than the Nelson vanguard and, led by Ornian, they frequontly swept the length of the grouid in drib- . bling rushes. The hahdling of the Buh ler backs Was also better, K. Brown, after- being run i}icejy into position bj A. Strachan, outpacing' the opposition to score three tries, while Phipps, in scrambling forward rushes, added twO tries, S. Stewaih making two conversions. Nelson 's one score came in a forward .scramble over the Buller li'ne, McLean passing the ball to Costello. Blair and McKenzie (backs), McLean, McLaren, McKay and Drummond (forwards), wero particularly noticehble on the Nelson side, while G. Orman, Mason, Lake, Pratt aud Phipps (forwards) and Straohan, Butterfield, Brown ana Stewart were prominent for Buller.
