PREPARING FOR WAR
Scheme To Train Mercantile Marine Officers (Eeceived '24, 11.0 a.m.) LONDON, July 23. A plan to train. merchant navy officers in defence, ineluding convoying, antisubmarine and anti-gas measures, mineprotection and gun drill, was announced by Captain Euan Wallaee, Secretary to the Board of Trade, at a merchant navy luneheon at Southampton. Training centres for volunteers are being established at various ports in the United Kingdom.
