GULDAHL'S 281 IN THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP One of the notable American failures in the British Open was Ralph Guldahl, who won the Open in his own country in June. Four y^ars ago he missed a four-footer, to ti« with amateur Johnny Goodman ir the Open at Chicago, and for a time he Tetired from golf, devoting hn time to selling motor-cars. The goli bug got into his veins again and he realised the ambition of every American golfer by annexing the Oper crown. -Nearly the entire gallery oi 10,000 followed him when. he set out on the final round with Harry Coopei as his partner.
