BAY VIEW WOMEN'S GARDEN CIRCLE MEETS
The July meeting of the Bay Yiew garden circle was held at Mrs Olsen's. Miss Nicholls, circle leader, read the oiotto for the month, ".Gardening is the purest of liuman pleasures, the greatest refreshment to the spirit of man. " Mrs Holt, of Napier, gave a very interesting talk on rose culture, and a demonstration of rose-pruning. A talk on how to take euttings from hardwood plants was also very much appreciated. Mrs McHardy's hyacinth, grown in water, was a beautiful specimen. The hostesses' competition, "haming flowers from representative articles,'1 was won by Mrs Peterson. The competitions resulted: — Shoulder spray v Mrs C. Peterson 1, Miss Nicholls 2, Mrs Staniland 3. Best bloom^ Mrs G. Peterson I, Miss Nicholls 2, Mesdames Lfl Staniland and C. B. Wilson (equal) 3. Sweetest scented flower, Mrs A. McHardy (daphne) 1, Mrs W. Saunders (violet) 2, Mrs E. Peterson (carnation) 3.
