HAPPY EVENING AT CRAGGY RANGE DEFENCE
A very happy evening was spent by all who attended the fifth annual ball organised by the members of the Craggy Range Defence Rifle Olub, which was held in the Oddfellow's Hall, Hastings, last evening. The hall was gaily decorated with a canopy of multi-coloured streamers, interspersed with balloons and tiny coloured lights. ferns and other greenery. At each side of cthe stage were jardinieres of bamboo, interniingled with pink paper poppies. Easy chairs wefe set out on the stage, and on the central table were arrayed the club's cups, which were greatly admired. During the evening the president of the club, Mr M. S. C. Gordon, called upon Mra Vv. van Asch to present the . cups to the winners. The secretary, Mr Frank R. Field, was unfortunately unable to be present, ^aiid in his absence Mr iloyston Campbell read the prize list. A splendid programme of dance tuues was plaj'ed by Gordon Redward's orchestra. • Cfystal vases of iceland poppies decorated the supper tables, where a very tempting buft'et supper was set out and was much enjoyed by everyone. Among those present were: Mrs M. S. C. Gordon, the president' s wife, who wore a gown of navy blue angelskm laee with a red rose at the square neck and cape sleeves. Mrs AV. van Asch, black needlerun Jace with a corsage spray of white ilowers and a black velvet coatee. Mrs I. A, Mackintosh, black golddotted taffeta with gold lame tr^miug the corsage. Mrs A. Rich, deep iSowu. georgette with puffed sleeves of needlerUn lace in the same shade. MrsrG. Cook, black floral georgette frock and an evening coat of black and cherry patterned lame. Mrs Gordon Cainpbell, black cotelle with a sash of bold lame and a cape of brown fox . fur. Mlrg Roystop Campbell, black rippled satin patterned with ivory and having a ggranium red velvet belt. • Mrs Ian Gordon, black georgette with irisets of chantilly lace and clasps of brilliants on the corsage. Mrs R. P. Brown, spring green souple satin with migh. neckline caught with a goluen flower and r^ffed sleeves. Mrs D. A. Bathgate, ^'ack floral matalasse with a long coat of stifleiled net with applique trimming.
Mrs Derek van Asch, white taffeta with off-shoulder frills and a black sash. Mrs I. S. Gardiner, primrose gftld threaded cotelle with a black velvet coatee. Mrs Maurice Field, leaf-bud green augeiskin lace and a primrose velvet coatee with shirred" sleeves. Mrs J. K. Agnew, rust panne velvet gown with shirred front panel and a matching velvet coatee. Mrs H. G. Carr, flame silver-threaded cloque with puffed sleeves and brilliant clasp at each side of the square neck. Mrs David Cliristie, blue floral sueda crepe with a flame sash and bluei velvet coatee. Mrs A. O. Scoon, black gOOrgette gown worn with a coatee of black panne velvet. Mrs Robson, deepest green ring velvet gown and matching coatee With long full sleeves. Miss Mary van Asch, rose, black and white plaid taffeta with a scarf of rose and whit stiffened net. Miss Lassie Baird, aprieot georgette with green flowers appliqued on the puffed sleeves. Miss Ailsa McKenzie, white needlerun lace gown with sash and corsage flowers of sapphire velvet. Miss Joan Ratusch, cherry georgette with square neckline and flared epaulettes. Miss Rosemary Miller, blue Chiffon gown the corsage gathered into a band with pink rosebud trimming. - Miss Pat Pimley, wliite organdie with multi-coloured polka dots and a white coatee.
