"LEADING THE WORLD"

-Own Correspondent.)

Dominion Ligislation

(B /. Air Mail. —

LONDON, June 23. "I return to New Zealand more firmly convinced than ever that our Dominion is leading the worid in legislation and in things that matter to the people as a whole," said Mr M. J. > Savage, the Prime Minister, two daya beforp leaving London on his return voyage by the Rangitata. "My views have not been altered or modifled in any way, ' ' said Mr Savage. ' 'In fact, I am more firmly convinced than ever that the greatest guarantee for peace is to make a more serious attempt to remove the causes of war. My interpretation of that is that the causes of war are largely .due to the struggle for foreign markets. A nation that wants to extend its market must begin with its own people, and it must increase their purchasing power." Mr Savage said that he preferred not to make any statement in London upon the Imperial Conference. "When I return," he said, "I shall tell the peojde of New Zealand of my own view of the conference before it 'oegan, how I viewed it during tlie sessions, and how 1 view it 'after its conclusion." The Prime Minister said he was satisfied that New Zealand 's various interests were wonderfully well handled in England by the people in charge. He considered that no man was better qualificd to fill the position of High Commissioner to-day than Mr W. J. Jordan, who would continue to receive every assistance to make known to Great Britain the viewpoints of the Dominion and it? wholehearted desire for co-operation with' the Mother Country.
