DULL AND ERRATIC SALE
Dairy Cattle at Stortford PRICES IN TO-DAY'S MARKET There was a good attendance of dairymen and others interested at today's sale of dairy cows at Stortford Lodge. The market, however, was dull and erratic, with a few entries only tnaking satisfactory values. The prineipal entry was the herd of 50 Jersey and Jersey-cross cows offered on account of Mr A. R. F. Allen, of Pakowhai, who has given up dairying. These cows generally were in quite good condition and included a nurnber of good dairying types. The top price wa? £6 17/6 for a fifth calver, which was one of the best in the herd. A useful second calver almost on the drop brought £5 5/-. A fourth calver due next month brought £5 7/6. On behalf of various other clients a number of cows were offeredj mauy of which were in very poor condition. The range of prices for grade Jurseys in good order was from £4 15/- to £6 15/-, for fourth and fifth calvers. Late calvers in particular were slow to trade, some due in October being as ckeap as £2 15/-. Cows in profit for the last fortnight, giving two gallons of milk a day, made £3 5/-, A number of the better-quality entries were purchased for outside districts.
