(By Telegraph
WELLINGTON, Last Night. • A sentence of three years' imprisonment was imposed by Mr. Justice Reed in the Supreme Court to-night on Rongo 'Edward Norman Telford, aged 36, a -lorry driver of Trentham, who was found guilty of six oharges involving offences against males at Petone. He ipleaded not guilty. After the verdict the foreman said the jury considered the demeanour of ilve of the boys called by the Crown indicated considerable faxniliarity with the form of vice dealt with in the casc and that their future conduct shoull receive public attention. | "It is a shocking state of afifairs, and jl must agree with the rider of the jury. i These boys are not good boys," said 'his Honour, addressing the prisoner. "Whether you have been the person who taught them this sort of thing I don't know. At all events I would not be doing my duty i£ I did not impose a heavy penalty." Before discharging' the jury lhi& Honour said: "I agree with the finding. I think upon the evidence that what has been deposed to has actually taken place. It is a shocking state of affairs. I don't know whether tihese boys will sprOad this contaminatiou among otherB. It is to be hoped they won't. It is an extremely seriousi thing and points to grave1 immorality in this particular centre. The way in which the boys gave their evidence wotild seem to indicate that they did not consider it very dreadful. It is teally a shocking state of affairs."
