OLD-TIME DANCING ENJOYED AT THE PIPE BAND BALL
Old-time daneing was the order of the evening in the Hastings Assembly Hall last night at the Pipe Band Ball, organised by the members of the Hastings and District Scots Society. Over 400 dancers from all parts of the district were present, and the ball was particularly brigbt and jollyThe hall was decorated with punga ferns, palms and other greenery, and overhead -woro streamers in all colours intermiugled with tiny coloured ldghts. The programme was a long oue and iucluded a number of diiferent dances, mi'litary two-steps,, maxinas, lancers, valeta, schottiscnes> polkas, quadrijles and many more and due to the exeellent supervision of the M.C.'s, of whom Uuxoftain J. Ramsay was the chief, the dances iollowed each other lh splendid order. The music for the daneing wae played by McKay's oldtime. orchestra and, jvas exeellent. In the supper-room a delicious buffet supper was set out, the tables having red and white cheeked! cloths and vases of bright flowers. The supper arrangements were in the capable Lands of Mrs Walker, and 'the supper had been provided voluntarily. The programme opened with the Grand March, the music being played by the Pipe Band, and then a. waiti?. Among the dancers were the ch'-ef of the Scots Society, Mr P. J. Priest and Mrs Priest, who wore a gown of ocean blue needlerun lace wifh silver girdle and silver flowers at the neck. The patron of the society, Mr H. W» U. Baird, was accompanied by Mrs Baird. who wore floral chiffon in grey, rose and white with a clasp of brclliants at the neck, The secretary, Mr J, W. ShaW, with whom was his daughter, Miss Muriel Shaw, who wore a bJack skirt with her coronation red satin e.vening blouse with brilliant clasps at the aquaro neck. The deputy-Mayor, Mr A. I. Rainbow, was accompanied by Mrs Rainbow who wore a trained gown of navy blue needlerun lace with pink corsage spray. Mrs A. C. A. Hyde, black georgette gown. with a shoulder spray of cyclauien shaded flowers. Mrs A, F. Glenny, black georgette with handmado silver spray of cyclathe neck. Mre Guthrie, green rippled chiffon worn with a matching green velvet cape, Mrs E. V. Simpson, black matelasse gown, the corsage and sleeves beautii'ully beaded.with silver beads. Mrs E, Y. Comrie. black needlerun lace with grey fox fur edging the full sleeves. Mrs. S- Storer, deep blue matelasse with a sash of velvet and pink corsage spray. Mrs H. Lovell-Smith, eherry needlerun lace with cape sleeves. Mra Taylor, wine matelasse with corsage of gold lamo. Mis3 IV. Murton, burgundy lace and satiu with green shoulder posy. Mra O. A. Johnson, black panno velvet with a clasp of brilliants at the neck. Miss I. McCartney, black ring velvet witb a red spray. Mrs Wall, royal purple satin gown and white fur coatee. Mrs 1).
