PATANGATA PLOUGHING MATCHES

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. Tiiere was a record attendance for fclic annaul ploughing match held on M r MT. O/ Evan's prtfperty at Otane this afternoon uhder the auspices of the Patangata, Elsthorpe, Omakere and Districts Ploughing Club'. The gate notled £12 more for the club than last year, about 1500 people and 500 cars j being admitted. Some fine horses took part in both the ploughing and jumping events, splendid entries being received for the iatter m particular. The ploughing work was of an all-round better standard than last year, and the big event of the day, the open championship, was carried off by A. Brown, of Waimate, who has previously won. a South Island Championship. He drove a team owned by Kittow Bros. M. C. Connor scooped the pool as regards special awards, collecting five of the eight prizes with a fine team of well-matched draughts. The judges for the various events were: — Ploughing, JVlr D. Cochrane, Waipawa; A. Coleman, Marton; W. Keitli, Eketahuna; ploughs, Mr R. McLean, Waipukurau; teams and.decorations, Mr A. Laing, Hastings ; dog trials, Mr N. Tlliey, Takapau; hogget classes, Mr W. K. Morton, Marton; jumping, Mr Bruce McKay, Waipukurau. The results were as follow:-— PLOUGHING Double furrow, open, go as you please, Hawke's Bay championship. — A.
