Social Justice Broadcasts
CTJRIOTJS.
Sir, — In regard to a letter in last night's issue of the Herald-Tribune on social justice broadcasts, X notice that in your reply you state that when you referred the matter to the 2ZH authorities there was no-one available who was authorised to make a statement in reply to your inquirles. I, too, have been keenly interested in these sessions, and have been more than disappointd in not hearing them recently Last week I xang 2ZH inquiring if the social justice session would be cohtinued, and was informed that they had received no records from the association and that they did not know when further addrcsses, if any, would be available. A friend of cnine also got in touch with 2ZH and was informed that, "on account of the faet that, the speaker on one occasion had said over the air that if there was" any listener who would care to reeeive further information upon the subject the speaker would be pleased to supply that information upon receipt of three ponny stamps to cover postage", the station had construed his statement to bo an "appeal for funds or subscriptions" and upon those grounds had refused to perrnit any further broadcasts. ; Surely, all three repiles to inquiries aie astonishingly lame! I know that the sponsors of the social justice crusade are only too keen to assist. Thus the report that "no recorded talks were available" sounds curious. That the request for the forwarding of the three penny stamps should be considered an appeal for fuuds and that the rules debarrcd the station from broadcasting such matter is certainly getting things down to a fine art: If "threepence to covcr postage" cannot be announced, could wo not have broadcasts of those speakers "that do not refer to threopenny pieccs or postage? It is strange that such an enlightening and intcresting series of addrcsses should so snddenly come to an end. There are many cnore who have listeued with appreciation and interest to these sessions, and it would be gratifying to know the roal rcason for this untimely cnding. Perhaps some other listener can throw a littlo light on this
matter, — Yours, etc., Hastings, '"July 22, 1937.
